Small Things Like These is the latest movie (after The Quiet Girl and Wolfwalkers) that takes Irish light and shadow seriously, doesn’t shy away from tragedy nor wallow in it, and offers some healing in the form of a protagonist willing to go the extra mile for the sake of love. It’s also a Christmas movie that takes Christmas seriously - it’s bleak, but deeply redemptive.
